Waterlogged.

the town

As expected, last night and today's weather was full of rain, thunder, lightning and wind. We decided to sleep in and relax at the apartment while watching the sky turn grey.

a storm is brewing

By 11:00am the wind died down and the rain became lighter, so we decided to venture out in search of some brandy and olive oil to take home.

After picking up a few items and getting a couple things for dinner, we checked the bus schedule to Vis town. This is our last day on Vis island, so we thought we would go and check out the shops of the main city here. We headed off on the local bus at 1:00pm expecting to spend the afternoon there.

The moment we arrived, the heavens opened up and it just poured rain...nice!  We tried to find some shelter, but there were no places around or open...many shops close between 2-4pm. We finally popped into a little pastry shop where I picked up a local specialty of flatbread with salted fish and onion, viska pogaca...not bad, but not my favourite.

a traditional treat

The rain slowed down a bit so we decided to walk along the waterfront in search of some shops that might be open...no such luck!  Instead, all we really did was get wetter. So what does one do in the pouring rain in Vis town you say???...take pictures and look at the sail boats of course!

rain, rain and more rain

Where to go from here?

We finally found a local caffe/bar to have a kava while waiting for the first bus back to Komiza...a lot of crews have come off their boats during the weather, so it was busy in the few restaurants we could find. To be expected the coffee shop was full of people smoking...Lisa was seriously unimpressed... however the only alternative for the next hour was to wait outside. So I enjoyed my latte, while Lisa checked out what we could do at our next and final stop, Dubrovnik.

tolerating the smokey environment

We finally caught the 3:00pm bus back to Komiza and picked up some chips and wine to have while weathering this afternoon's storm...what else would you expect us to do!?!

it's wine time!!

After cooking up the last of our veggies and leftovers for dinner, we had a little down time and then headed back to the waterfront around 8:00pm...that's after drying our very wet shoes with the hair dryer! I love all the tiny alleys with the stone houses, wooden shutters and old wooden doors.

We also came across an intricate iron canon by the clock tower, walked out along the dock and ended up at our favourite little restaurant, Fabrika, for one last Carob Brandy....I think the entire tourist community was enjoying time there as well!

Well that's it from Vis. Off tomorrow by ferry and bus to our final destination Dubrovnik.

Nighty night...  L & L
