Access Denied...

the itinerary

Our 6 hour flight to London was fairly smooth...aside from when we dropped in the air after hitting the "wake" of another plane....yiikkkeess! I guess it was a good wake-up call, as we were about to land.  When we arrived at Heathrow I'm fairly certain we climbed up and down about 8 different flights of stairs and followed some crazy purple maze of hallways to finally reach our terminal...only to find our gate wasn't even posted yet. While waiting for our flight I realized all my email accounts were blocked and I was not overly successful in resetting them...needless to say I wasn't a happy camper. All is well now though thanks to some help from home...thanks Natalie for helping save the day :))

Heathrow...where to now???

Our flight to Croatia was delayed an hour due to "congestion" on the airport runway, but two hours after arriving at Heathrow we were back in the sky. This time I was seated next to two 6 foot + men...it was an interestingly "cozy" experience.  We landed in Zagreb, Croatia around 3pm (5 hours ahead of AST) to an overcast, very lush and green, 20 degrees.  The Zagreb airport is quite small and old.  Each plane is met by a set of mobile stairs and you are then driven to the terminal.

Welcome to Croatia!

At passport control, the guy took such a long time looking at my passport I wasn't sure he was going to let me in...but thankfully he did!!  We were then met by a very impatient taxi driver who was stressed that we were an hour late and he had another fare to pick up. We followed him out to the cab, where he was in such a rush he literally got trapped against the car as another taxi almost drove into him, then he decided to make up some time by driving in and out of traffic at a crazy speed...I was sure I was back on the autobahn in Germany...and then we were almost creamed by another car coming into our lane...Welcome to Croatia!!!

Dora, our lovely host at the apartment we rented was waiting for us when we arrived. She showed us around, highlighted a few points of interest and then we decided to settle in for a bit. Once we caught our breath we headed out to find an ATM...with success only after a women had to show us how to open the bank door by pushing it open (novel concept I know)...I think we are very over tired!!!

Finally...after getting a bit turned around on our journey downtown, we bought some groceries and headed home to have some well needed caffeine.

We've arrived!!!!

Tonight we decided to lay low, cook some chicken kebabs at home...thankfully there was a manual on how to use the "hob" (I am starting to think we are hopeless in our sleepless delirium)...and head to bed early. We've both been up for over 24 hours, with 8 hours in the air, so I'm sure we will sleep well...looking forward to a full day of exploring tomorrow.

Until then...
